Sometimes God will not move to heal someone due to some type of block or hindrance. I would like you to consider, according to the Word of God, the hindrance of Unforgiveness. Right about now you are probably thinking and asking yourself this question, "Isn't unforgiveness just a sin?" Of course it is! I am just separating it because many people don't deal with it the same way that they deal with other sin in their lives. For some reason we try to justify why it's okay to not to forgive. That's the problem! There isn't any scriptural justification for harboring unforgiveness.I like to categorize unforgiveness into three types: 1) A grudge against someone who has offended you. 2) Uncompassionate and unwilling to forgive. 3) A resentful attitude that causes a person to speak and do evil acts.
In Mark 11:22-25, Jesus speaks to the disciples and tell them to have faith in God, believe without doubt that when you pray you could have whatever you ask. The clincher is this, "But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too." So...it's not okay to hold a grudge. If you do God will not honor your prayer. That includes your prayers to that you pray to receive healing.
Matthew 18 speaks on compassion in Jesus's parable of the unforgiving servant. God is not pleased when we are unwilling to have compassion one for another. "Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you? And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” When you are unwilling to forgive and show compassion you are disobedient to the Word of God. The Bible tell us in Proverbs 4:20-22 to be attentive to His Word and to keep them in our hearts so that we may receive life and health to our whole body. If we choose not to show mercy we have rejected life and health.
When we choose to linger in a state of unforgiveness our attitude begins to change. We begin to display fleshly appetites that lead us to delve deeper into sin. This causes us to choose to be angry, bitter and envious. Even medical research has proven that when you harbor these types of emotions that it is detrimental to your health and state of being. God in Ephesians 4 outlines instructions for Christian living. He specifically instructs us to get rid of these mindsets, emotions and acts of sin. "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
In conclusion, we must realize how important it is for us to pay attention to the details of our instruction manual (Bible) to living holy. We can't just pick and choose what we want to embrace and then expect godly results. Jesus died so that we could be healed and restored. He was made an advocate to the Father in our behalf. "So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most"(Heb.4:16 NLT) so we can maintain spiritual righteousness and reap the healing benefits of His Word.
